Introducing Summer

Summer is a new GTK4 app for calculating and verifying file checksums.

Overview

Summer can calculate checksums for entire directories and save the checksums values in a file. Checksum calculations are very fast. Hashes can be calculated for thousands of files in seconds.

You can verify if any files are modified or corrupted by opening the checksum file. Summer integrates with the system as the default handler for checksum files. Clicking on any checksum file will open it in the app.

Use Cases

  • Verify the integrity of downloaded files: Check if a downloaded file is corrupted or complete by comparing the checksum.
  • Verify files on removable storage: Verify if the files stored on a removable hard disk, USB drive, or CD-DVD are intact or damaged due to bitrot or failing media.
  • Calculate checksum for publishing: Calculate and share the MD5 or SHA2 checksum of files that you publish on your website or share with friends.
  • Detect malware: Check if any malware has modified files on your storage drives by verifying checksums.

Supported Distributions

This app is available for Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora Workstation.

Since it uses Gtk4 and Adwaita for the UI it requires Debian 12 or Ubuntu 24.04 at the minimum. It will not work on older releases of Debian or Ubuntu.

Purchase

A personal license for Summer is available from the link below. This is a single-user license with perpetual validity and includes future updates.
