Timo v1.1 is now available.
Timo is an app for batch-converting image files. It can optimize PNG/JPG/WEBP images to reduce the file size without loss in visual quality.
Whats’ New
Fedora Support
Timo is now available for Fedora Workstation 39, 40, and future releases.
JPEG-2000 (JP2) and JPEG-XL (JXL) support
You can now encode images to JPEG-2000 and JPEG-XL format.
JPEG-2000
JPEG-2000 is the modern version of JPEG with 20% better compression. It uses a wavelet-based encoding method instead of the DCT-based encoding used by JPEG. The format is often used for compressing RAW images recorded by digital cameras, but most web browsers and applications lack support for displaying images in this format.
JPEG-2000 is superseded by modern formats like WebP, AVIF, and JPEG-XL which produce smaller files with better quality.
JPEG-XL
JPEG-XL is another modern version of JPEG with 60% better compression. It was designed to compete with codecs like HEIC, AVIF, and WebP. Even though this format has similar compression quality to AVIF, most web browsers and applications lack support for displaying images encoded in this format.
Compare Window Improvements
The Compare window will now rescale large images to better fit the preview area and to reduce memory usage. The window can be closed by pressing any key on the keyboard.
